Privacy policy
DinnerChime is operated by Alexzander Avila. This policy explains what the DinnerChime app ("DinnerChime", "we", "us") collects, why, who helps us run it, and the choices you have. If you have a question, email support@dinnerchime.app.
Information we collect
| Information | Whose | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Email address and password (stored only as a secure hash) | Parents | To sign in and to send password reset codes |
| Apple or Google account ID and email address, if you choose those sign-in options | Parents | To sign in |
| An Apple sign-in token | Parents who use Sign in with Apple | To disconnect DinnerChime from your Apple ID when you delete your account |
| Family name and each person's display name | Everyone | To show who each plate is for |
| Food list, meals, plate choices and notes | The family | This is what the app does |
| Phone model (for example "iPhone 15") and when it last signed in | Each phone | So parents can see which phones are signed in and sign them out |
| Push notification token | Each phone | To send dinner and "plate ready" notifications |
Like any online service, our servers see your phone's IP address when the app connects. We use it only to protect the service, for example by limiting repeated sign-in attempts, and we don't add it to your family's profile.
What we don't collect
We don't collect location, contacts, photos, birthdays, advertising identifiers or analytics. The camera is used only to scan the pairing code on a parent's phone. Nothing it sees is saved or sent anywhere.
Children's privacy
DinnerChime is designed for families, so kids under 13 use it. We built it to follow the U.S. Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) and similar laws elsewhere.
- A parent sets up every child. Kids can't create accounts. A parent adds each child and pairs their phone by showing a code, so a parent is involved before a child can use the app.
- Kids give us almost nothing. A child's profile is the display name the parent types in. We suggest a first name or nickname. Kids never enter an email address, password, birthday, photo or location.
- What we keep about kids: their display name, the plates they choose (including any note they type), and their phone's model, sign-in times and notification token.
- We never use kids' information for ads or profiling, and we never share it except with the service providers below, which only help run the app.
- Notifications don't include names. They say things like "Dinner's ready! ๐".
Parents' choices
- Review: the Family tab shows every family member and their signed-in phones. The Kitchen tab shows each person's plate.
- Remove a child: removing a child from your family deletes their profile and plate history, and signs out their phones.
- Sign out a child's phones: stops them from using DinnerChime, for example if one is lost.
- Delete everything: see below.
- Ask us: email support@dinnerchime.app to review, change or delete your child's information, or to withdraw consent.
How we use information
Only to run DinnerChime: signing you in, showing your family's meals and plates, sending notifications and password reset emails, keeping the service secure, and answering support requests. We don't sell personal information, show ads, or use your information to train AI models.
Who helps us run DinnerChime
These service providers process information on our behalf, only to provide their service:
- Microsoft Azure hosts our servers and database, in the United States.
- Expo, together with Apple Push Notification service and Google Firebase Cloud Messaging, delivers notifications. They receive the phone's notification token and the notification text.
- Resend sends password reset emails. It receives the parent's email address and the reset code.
- Apple and Google confirm your identity if a parent chooses Sign in with Apple or Google.
We may also disclose information if the law requires it, or to protect the safety of our users.
Keeping and deleting information
We keep your family's information while your account exists. A parent can delete their account from Family โ Delete account in the app:
- If you're the only parent, this permanently deletes your whole family: kids' profiles, the food list, meals and plate history.
- If another parent is in the family, only your account is deleted.
- If you used Sign in with Apple, we also disconnect DinnerChime from your Apple ID.
Deleted information may stay in our encrypted database backups for up to 7 days before it is gone for good.
Security
All data travels over encrypted HTTPS connections. Passwords are stored only as secure hashes. Each phone's sign-in key is kept in the iOS Keychain or Android Keystore. Every family's data is kept separate, so one family can never see another's.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, delete or get a copy of your personal information, or to object to how we use it. You can do most of this in the app. For anything else, email support@dinnerchime.app and we'll respond within 30 days.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we'll update the date at the top. If a change affects how we handle children's information, we'll ask parents for consent again before it applies.
